Information about the Skopelos ferry services.

There are several companies that provide Skopelos ferry services. At the bottom of the page are links to the ferry companies websites. Here you will find further information and timetables.

Ferries depart year round from some of the ports on mainland Greece. While there are only services during the summer months available at other ports.

The closest port is on Skiathos island where there are several ferries to Skopelos each day. This is also the closest airport to Skopelos.

Skopelos ferry from Skiathos to Glossa port. This takes approximately 20 minutes on the flying dolphin and flying Cat or about 30 minutes on the car ferry.

Skopelos ferry from Skiathos to Skopelos Town. This service takes approximately 45 minutes on the flying dolphin and the flying cat or about 1hr on the car ferry.

Other ports are found at:

Volos. The ferry service from here runs all year. All the ferry companies operate from here.

Ferry journey from Volos to Skopelos is approx 2:30 hrs on the Flying Dolphin/Cat or 3:30hrs on the car ferry.

Mantoudi. This service is currently available all year and is operated by Anes ferries.

Agios Constantinos. This service is only available during the summer months. This route is operated by Hellenic Seaways and Aegean Flying Dolphin.

Kimi. This service is only available during the summer months. Skyros lines operate this route.

During the winter months there are three ferries per day to Skopelos. This increases dramatically during the summer.

There are currently talks underway. Hopefully if successful there will be a summer ferry service from Thessaloniki. We will update this information as and when things change.

Hellenic Seaways, Anes and Aegean flying Dolphin operate Skopelos ferry services all year round. Further information can be found on their website. Air Travel to Skopelos island

Information about using air travel to get to Skopelos.

Air travel makes getting to Skopelos quick and easy. There are many airlines that operate services to Greece from all over the world. Here we will concentrate on the most useful services for getting to Skopelos.
The nearest airport to Skopelos is Skiathos. This island is only a short ferry journey from Skopelos. Companies operate air travel to Skiathos from May to October. Volos airport is at the moment also only available during the summer months. For year round air travel look at Athens international airport and Thessaloniki airport. There is an internal flight from Athens to Skiathos all year. In the summer this is a daily service but in the winter it is once a week.

Air travel to Skiathos

Skiathos airport is the main airport servicing the Northern Sporades.

From the airport it is 10 minutes in a taxi to the ferry port and should cost about 10 euro.

The ferry ticket offices are opposite the port entrance.

The ferry to the port of Glossa, Skopelos (known locally as Loutraki) takes about 20 minutes. The ferry to Skopelos town takes approximately a 45 minutes.

Air travel to Volos

There are a number of airlines flying regularly to Volos during the summer, from many European destinations.

Volos airport is about 40 minutes by taxi from the ferry ports. There is a regular bus service which takes about 1 hour.

The ferry ticket offices are opposite the port entrance.

The fast ferry takes 2:00 hours to Skopelos island. The car ferries take between 3 to 4 hours.

Air travel to Athens

Athens airport has the biggest choice of airlines.

From the airport you can either take an internal shuttle flight to Skiathos or travel by bus.

The shuttle flight to Skiathos takes about 20mins and is operated by Aegean Airlines. See our ferry information for details about getting to Skopelos.

The second choice is to get a bus from the airport to the bus station in Athens. You then take an intercity bus to either Agios Constantinos, Mantoudi or Volos. For details about this see our bus information page.

Air travel to Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki is Greece’s second city and is located in Northern Greece. There are plenty of airlines flying here all year round.

From the airport it’s about an hours journey to the main bus station. The bus to Volos from the main bus terminal takes about 2:30 hours. For more information on buses see our page.

The new water plane service is scheduled to start this summer. At the time of writing there are no further details. We will update this page as information becomes available.

Bus journey planner for Skopelos

Information for planning your bus journey to Skopelos.

Your bus journey to Skopelos will probably involve KTEL who are the official bus company in Greece.

Generally you will be traveling from either Athens or Thessaloniki to one of the mainland ports to take a ferry to Skopelos.


From Athens airport you need to take the X93 local bus. A ticket costs about 5 euro, you pay the driver. Ask the driver to let you know when the bus gets to Liosion for the Kifisos main terminal. This is the stop closest to the main bus station but is still a few hundred meters away.

Once in the main bus station at Kifisos you can get your bus journey tickets to several different ports.

Agios Constantinos: 2:20hrs bus journey time (Hellenic Seaways and Aegean flying dolphin sail from here only in the summer months May to October).

Mantoudi on Evia: 2:30hrs bus journey time (Anes sail from here year round).

Volos: 4:30hrs bus journey time (all ferry companies sail from here year round).


Outside the airport you will see the taxi rank, beyond this is the bus stop and ticket kiosk. The kiosk is only open during the day.

From the airport take the 78 bus to the Macedonia bus terminal (last stop so just stay on the bus!). Tickets are 1 euro from the kiosk at the bus stop (validate your ticket when you get on the bus! orange box) or 2 euro from the machine on the bus.

Once at the terminal find desk 18 which is next to the large cafe, and get a ticket to Volos. Bus journey time 2:30. Cost 19 euro.

Skopelos bus service

The local Skopelos buses run a regular service up and down the island, stopping at all the main beaches and villages. During the summer the buses run about every hour. In the winter the service is reduced to about once a day. Pay on the bus, its about 6.50 euro to go from Skopelos town to Loutraki. Bus journey time is about 1:20 hours.

Train journey to Skopelos

Traveling by train to get to Skopelos.

There is a good train network in Greece. Here we will cover trains from Athens and Thessaloniki to Volos. This is where you will take the ferry to get to Skopelos.

The country side in Greece is stunning with spectacular mountains, lakes and sea. Taking a train journey is probably the best way to soak up these views.

Train from Athens

From Athens international airport there is a train every hour to the central railway station.

Trains run daily to Larissa where you change taking a local train to Volos. The total journey time is about 5 hours. Tickets cost about 30 euro.

Train from Thessaloniki

The train station is about 20 km from the airport. The cheapest way to get there is to use the number 78 bus. The ticket costs about 0.50 euros if bought from the kiosk at the airport, or 0,60 euros if bought on the bus. Buses run every 45 minutes and the journey takes 30 to 50 minutes depending on the traffic. You can also take a taxi, which will be slightly quicker, but it will be more expensive at around 15-20 euros.

Again you need to take the train to Larissa and change there for the train to Volos. Total journey time is about 2:30 hours. Tickets cost between 15 to 20 euro.

The train from Thessaloniki to Larissa passes in the shadow of Mount Olympus.


The train station in Volos if quite close to the port. It would take about 15 minutes to walk or 5 minutes in a taxi.

When you come out of the train station turn left and just keep going until you get to the fishing boats in the port. Follow the sea front to the left to the ferry port entrance. The ticket offices are opposite.

Car rental on Skopelos island

Here are our recommendation for car rental on Skopelos.

The most convenient way of getting around on Skopelos island is with motorbike or car rental.

The bus service does not cover the whole island and car rental gives you the freedom of moving about when you want and where you want to go!

There are many car rental companies on the island but we recommend two. Both of these companies are owned and run by local families. They are placed at opposite ends of the island, close to the ports of Skopelos town and Glossa. making collecting and dropping off your car easy!

You can choose from mopeds, small cars, family size cars and jeeps.

Their office is located about 1 km from the ferry port in Skopelos town.

They will meet you in the port with your car if you have reserved in advance.

If you decide to rent a car during your stay their office is easy to find. From the port turn left and follow the road taking the turn away from the sea front at the large junction. The office is about 200 meters along here.

Dream car rental in Loutraki.

Dream cars are owned and run by Glykeria and Nikos.

They are found next door the to Hellenic Seaways ferry ticket office in the port of Loutraki. It is about a 500 meter walk from the ferry drop off point. If there is no one at the office call into the ticket office where you will usually find Nikos.
